Required checkups before installation

  • Before installing the DROP electric sauna heater, verify that the maximum amperage of the main circuit breaker complies with the parameters of the heater.
  • Ensure that the power rating (kW) of the heater matches the cubic size (m3) of the steam room. In case there are uninsulated walls made of bricks, tiles, glass or logs in the steam room, additional volume of 1.5 m3 per each such square meter of the wall should be added to the cubic size of the steam room.
  • The minimum safety distance from the ceiling and the walls of the steam room that apply to the positioning of the electric sauna heater are presented in Table 1.

Installation of DROP electric sauna heater

When positioning the heater, ensure that there is a safe clearance between flammable materials and external surfaces of the heater.

  • DROP electric sauna heater must be mounted to the wall. When choosing a suitable location, ensure that you can conveniently throw water on sauna rocks when sitting on the sauna bench. The top layer of sauna rocks should be at the level of your feet when you are sitting on the sauna bench.
  • Table 1 gives an overview of the minimal safety distance that should remain between the heater and the ceiling and the walls of the steam room.
  • When choosing the mounting location for the heater, pay attention to potential hazardous situations that might arise during its use. Make sure that people do not have to pass too closely by the hot heater.
  • Before installation, remove the protective film from the steel plate behind the heater.
  • When installing the wall mount, take the full weight of the heater (65 kg) into consideration.

Table 1

Connecting the DROP electric sauna heater to the power supply

Only a certified electrician may connect the heater to the power supply.

  • Power cable inlet is located in the center of the heater, 10 cm from the lower edge.
  • A rubber insulated SIHF-JB cable or an equivalent cable must be used as the connection cable. It is forbidden to use a PVC insulated non-heat-resistant cable as the power cable of the heater.
  • The junction box must be waterproof and located up to 50 cm from the floor.
  • It is recommendable to connect the unit to the mains power supply without an earth leakage circuit breaker.
  • The cross-sectional area of the cable and maximum amperage of the circuit breaker are provided in Table 2.

Table 2 Power rating (kW) Heating elements (kW) Circuit breaker (A) Power cable (N x mm²)
DROP 4.5 4,5 1,5 3 x 10 5 x 1.5
DROP 6 6 2 3 x 10 5 x 1.5
DROP 9 9 1,5/2 3 x 16 5 x 2.5

  • Open the cover of the heater’s electrical box.
  • Connect the power cable with the terminal board as shown on the circuit diagram.
  • Close the cover.
  • Fix the cable to the output part with a cable strap.
  • Attach the heater to the wall mount, and ensure that it is securely fixed to the wall.

Sauna stones

  • Sauna stones with a diameter of 5–10 cm are suitable for DROP electric sauna heaters. It is recommendable to use round stones in HUUM sauna heaters. Round stones complement the design of the heaters and provide milder steam. Our product range includes round olivine diabase sauna stones and are sold in packs weighing 15 kg.
  • Of course, sauna stones from other manufacturers may be used in HUUM sauna heaters, but in such a case it is recommended to choose stones that are specifically meant for use in sauna heaters, and to avoid decorative stones as they may break easily.

Quantity of sauna stones

  • DROP electric sauna heater requires 55 kg of sauna stones with a diameter of 5–10 cm.
  • Refer to information on how to arrange sauna stones correctly.

Installation of the safety railing of DROP electric sauna heater

  • Attach the arcs of the safety railing to the bracket (1) with four screws (4 x 13 mm) and form a complete wooden guard from the semicircles.
  • Place the wooden guard on the grid of the DROP electric sauna heater, and insert the bracket into the third gap from the top (between the third and fourth wire rod) so that the foremost vertical wire rod goes tightly into the recess of the bracket (1). Fix the bracket (1) around the wire rod, using a bolt and a nut.
  • Rest the inner plates (2) of the wall bracket on the plywood guard. Insert a nut to fix the position of the guard (when necessary, push firmly so that the nut collar
fits snugly against the bracket). Important! Do not fix the outside plates (3) with bolts.
  • Verify that the plates (2) of the wall bracket are properly positioned, and fasten them to the wall with four screws (recommendable diameter of the screws is 4 mm, length and type depend on
the material of the wall). Important! Observe that the wooden arc is parallel to the upper wire rod of the heater.
  • Insert the outside plates (3) of the wall bracket into the openings of the inner plates (2), and position the wooden arcs between the bracket so that all drilled holes are aligned.
Fix the bracket with a bolt and a nut. The guard is complete!

Important! The supplied longer wall screws are meant to be used when the assembly is fastened to the wooden boards. Consult with a specialist in order to ascertain whether they are suitable for your wall material.

Installation of the embedding flange of DROP electric sauna heater

The embedding flange must be installed before mounting the DROP electric sauna heater.

  • Place the plates of the embedding flange on the bench boards as desired. Ensure that the edges of the embedding flange are against the wall.
  • Mark the inner border of the embedding flange to the bench boards.
  • Observe the marked line and draw an external outline that is 52 mm apart. It is recommended to use a wooden block with a width of 52 mm.
  • Cut through the wider outline and create an opening.
  • Mount the brackets of the embedding flange to the plates, using a bolt and a nut.
  • Insert the embedding flange into the opening and adjust the cut rim, if necessary.
  • Fix the brackets to the bench boards with screws.
  • You are now ready to mount the DROP electric sauna heater. Pay attention to the minimum height that is depicted on the figure.
