Required checkups before installation

  • Before installing the HIVE electric sauna heater, verify that the maximum amperage of the main circuit breaker complies with the parameters of the heater.
  • Ensure that the power rating (kW) of the heater matches the cubic size (m3) of the steam room.
In case there are uninsulated walls made of bricks, tiles, glass or logs in the steam room, additional volume of 1.5 m3 per each such square meter of the wall should be added to the cubic size of the steam room.
  • The minimum safety distance from the ceiling and the walls of the steam room that apply to the positioning of the electric sauna heater are presented in Table 1.

Installation of HIVE electric sauna heater

When positioning the HIVE electric sauna heater, ensure that there is safe clearance between the flammable materials and external surfaces of the heater.

  • When choosing a suitable location, ensure that you can conveniently throw water on sauna rocks when sitting on the sauna bench.
  • Ensure that the location of the heater does not create hazardous situations during its use.
Make sure that people do not have to pass too closely by the hot heater.
  • Table 1 gives an overview of the minimal safety distance that should remain between the heater and the ceiling and the walls of the steam room.
  • Power cable inlets are located on the bottom cover of the heater.
  • Mount the supplied adjustable legs (4 pcs) below the heater.

Connecting HIVE electric sauna heater to the power supply

Only a certified electrician may connect the heater to the power supply.

  • A rubber insulated SIHF-JB cable or an equivalent cable must be used as the connection cable.
It is forbidden to use a PVC insulated non-heat-resistant cable as the power cable of the heater.
  • The junction box must be waterproof and located up to 50 cm from the floor.
  • It is recommendable to connect the unit to the mains power supply without an earth leakage circuit breaker.
  • The cross-sectional area of the cable and maximum amperage of the circuit breaker are provided in Table 2.
Table 2
Power rating (kW)
Heating elements (kW)
Circuit breaker (A)
Power cable (N x mm²)
HIVE 12 12 2 3 x 20 5 x 4
HIVE 15 15 2 / 3 3 x 25 5 x 4
HIVE 18 16 3 3 x 32 5 x 6

  • Open the cover of the heater’s electrical box.
  • Connect the power cable with the terminal board as shown on the circuit diagram.
  • Close the cover.
  • Fix the cable to the output part with a cable strap.

Sauna stones

  • Sauna stones with the diameter of 5–10 cm are suitable for HIVE electric sauna heaters.
It is recommendable to use round stones in HUUM sauna heaters. Round stones complement the design of the heaters and provide milder steam.
Our product range includes round olivine diabases sauna stones and are sold in packs weighing 15 kg.
  • Of course, sauna stones from other manufacturers may be used in HUUM sauna heaters, but in such a case it is recommended to choose stones that are specifically meant to be used in sauna heaters, and to avoid decorative stones as they may break easily.

Quantity of sauna stones

  • HIVE electric sauna heater requires 270 kg of sauna stones with a diameter of 5–10 cm.
  • HIVE electric sauna heater with air tunnel requires 240 kg of sauna stones with a diameter of 5–10 cm.
  • Refer to information on how to arrange sauna stones correctly.

Installation of sauna accessories of HIVE electric sauna heater

Installation of the safety railing of HIVE electric sauna heater

  • Attach the wooden arcs of the safety railing to the outside part of the bracket with screws.
  • Install the inner part of the bracket between the upper and the subsequent wire rod of the heater.
  • Put the inner and outside parts together, and fix them with a bolt and nut.
    The safety railing is assembled!
  • Regular maintenance with a breathable wood preservative helps to extend the useful life of the wooden parts of the safety railing.
Use products that are intended for the sauna!
As a rule, it is sufficient to perform maintenance once a year, but the maintenance interval may be shortened if you use the sauna frequently.
  • The safety railing of the HIVE electric sauna heater is only meant to be used with HUUM electric sauna heaters.

Installation of the embedding flange of HIVE electric sauna heater

  • The embedding flange enables one to cover the rims created for mounting the heater.
  • Maximum extent of embedding the heater into the subsurface is 40 cm.
  • Choose a suitable location for the heater and make an opening with a diameter of 69.2 cm.
  • After mounting the heater, place the arcs around the heater to form a solid circle.
  • Fix the arcs to the corners with screws.
  • Attach the corners to the subsurface with screws.
    You’re ready to go!

Installation of the reflector of HIVE electric sauna heater

  • Place the reflector on the collars so that the upper hook of the reflector fits over the upper collar of the heater, and the lower hook goes around the closest collar.
    Ready!
  • In the case that you wish to join several reflectors together, set the external edges of the reflectors against each other, and fasten their upper and lower parts with bolts and nuts.

Installation of the air tunnel of HIVE electric sauna heater

  • Install the air tunnel between the heating elements of the heater.
  • Remove the cover of the air tunnel.
  • Stack two layers (approximately 10 cm) of sauna rocks on the bottom of the tunnel.
  • Bend the metal retainers under by 90 degrees so that they prevent the heating elements from contacting each other.
  • Put the cover back on.
  • The air tunnel prolongs the useful life of the heating elements and expedites the heating process.
